Member’s Thoughts
Here are thoughts from some of our members:

…we are a diverse group which can accommodate, at one pole, people with a deep interest in philosophy, and at the other, anybody with a enquiring mind willing to meet others of the same ilk. To me, the group constantly re-affirms what Socrates said so beautifully, that an unexamined life is not worth living. And that examination requires discourse and interaction…

The PPG has two constituencies, those with a deep knowledge of philosophy and those with a broader, less informed interest in epistemology (though I would not use that word in any communications!) and the pleasures of learning and debate.

As a member of the latter group, it is important to say that, while I find the knowledge of those who have studied philosophy impressive, I have rarely found it daunting. I can imagine that there are some who may be slightly intimidated at first, [but i can assure everyone that] it is not a tiered group and we are welcoming to any who simply wish to explore the foothills – an emphasis on the pleasure of exploration and discovery.

[I really value the] the energy, depth of thinking and democracy of the meetings.
